what were artisans purpose?

     

These were people whom we might also term craftsmen. They tended to live in towns and create items such as wood products, metal items, clothing, pottery, perform baking, and similar professions. Artisans sold many things such as, wood products, metal items and clothing.

merchants

merchants were at the very bottom of the social pyramid in ancient japan as they were thought selfish.And did not produce sell goods they bought them and resold.
